NORTHAMPTON SAINTS VS LEICESTER TIGERS
On 16 minutes Croft gave Leicester an attacking opportunity with a storm into the 22. Hartley piled into the ruck but was cleared out by Matt Smith. Hartley did not like it and lashed out at Smith. Matt Smith fell to floor and JP Doyle called for TMO to check what had happened. The video evidence that Dylan Hartley had illegally used his shoulder in Matt Smith’s face and was consequently shown the red card. Leicester called for the scrum from the penalty and dominated it. The Saints could not hold on and the Tigers were awarded the penalty try. Williams converted to give Leicester a 7-0 lead. Stephen Myler replied with 2 penalties of his own to complete the scoring of the first half.
HALF TIME NORTHAMPTON SAINTS 6 – 7 LEICESTER TIGERS
Early in the first half, Wilson collected the ball on the 22. He gave it to Ma’afu who fed Alex Waller. Walker dummied and dived over the line. Wilson had the conversion as Myler had gone off for a concussion assessment but he missed. Freddie Burns created some brilliance and burst through.
Williams gave a flat pass to Goneva who barged over the line. Williams missed the conversion and it was a one point match. Myler passed to Burrell who took it into contact. Dickson recycled quickly to Myler who delivered a sensational offload to Foden. Ben Foden stepped, dummied and scored. Myler missed another conversion and the game was still tight. Benjamin took the ball from halfway deep into 22 using some lightning speed. Tait got quick ball and gave it to Ghiraldini who flicked onto Goneva who scored his second. Williams converted from outside to give Leicester a lead on 70 minutes. Saints got a line out inside the 22 and used it so well. Dickson played the crash ball to Burrell who clattered through. Lawes flicked the ball out to Dickinson who gave it Myler. Great handling from him and he set up Jamie Elliot for the match winner. Tyler converted and JP Doyle blew the final whistle.
