James Hook offloaded to Billy Meakes

Before kick off, a minutes silence was held for the terrible tragedy in France last Friday.
During the first 5 minutes, Greig Laidlaw and Fabien Fotassin had already exchanged penalties but it was Gloucester who scored the first try; Ben Morgan burst through the yellow defensive line, handed off the oncoming defenders, and slid in for the score. However, La Rochelle responded 3 minutes later when a clever grubber kick from Fortassin was gathered by Mali Hingano who offloaded back on the inside to Julian Audy leaving the Cherry and Whites for dead.
Fortassin then snatched the lead back for La Rochelle with a penalty but the ever reliable boot of Scotland captain Greig Laidlaw brought it back into Gloucester hands.

Next, the see-saw was swinging in La Rochelle’s favour as replacement flanker Jason Eaton was set up by non other than Fabien Fortassin who converted the try again! Gloucester pushed and pushed but the score stayed the same until the 70th minute. Willi Heinz saw the space and shipped the ball to Billy Meakes who offloaded superbly to Steve McColl who galloped over.
A poor kick from replacement scrum half Albain Miron was punished by Sharples. Charlie Sharples used his pace to finish a superb solo try.
