After months of analysis and hours of watching rugby, Warren Gatland could finally confirm and release his 2017 British and Irish Lions squad to tour New Zealand. The 41 man squad consists of 16 England players, 12 Welsh, 11 Irish and just the 2 Scottish.
In terms of unexpected inclusions, Jared Payne of Ireland can cover a whole range of positions in the backline. Also since he is originally from New Zealand, his knowledge of the land and the passion of the All Blacks could be huge. Along with him, England’s kiwi centre Ben Te’o has been chosen for much of the same reasons as the latter.
Amidst the talk of centre Jonathan Joseph being left out, he also makes his way into a staggering squad.
On the other hand, Dylan Hartley has been left behind for Jamie George. George, who is second choice hooker for England, has only been capped 17 times where as Hartley has appeared 84 times in a white shirt. The England captain tweeted:
