The Western Force made the extremely long trip from Australia to Argentina to face ‘Los Jaguares’ at the Jose Amalfitani in Buenos Aires. The Jaguares have been on great form this year especially at home so the challenge for the Force would be immense.
The men from Australia nearly got the first try as Peter Grant nearly slipped through. He couldn’t make it but Richard Hardwick picked up and reached out but spilled the ball in the process.
The Force were then struck a massive blow. Richie Arnold was shown a yellow card for a tackle a without the ball and they were down 14 men. But it was the Force who exploited the yellow card period a notched a penalty from the boot of Ian Prior.
As the clock turned red for halftime, the Force were back to a full compliment but were given a massive scare. Bautista Ezcurra managed to wriggle free from a tackle and set Joaquin Tuculet into some space. The fullback got so close but a great cover tackle from Curtis Rona forced the knock on and the teams went in for halftime.
A few seconds into the second half, the Force nearly snatched one of the tries of the season. Onehunga Havilili Kaufusi caught a high kick and somehow burst through. He stepped superbly past Tuculet and passed to James Verity-Amm who dotted down. However, after the TMO review it was deemed that the space for Kaufusi to run through was opened up by obstruction. It was controversial but it was disallowed.
Verity-Amm then made a great burst and passed to Hardwick. The Number 8 was tackled and after he rolled he was held up aswell and another chance went begging. Juan Martin Hernandez converted a penalty aswell to draw the scores level.
The Force had been denied so many times but they did eventually get the try when Ian Prior made a run and found Alex Newsome, they finally got that! Prior’s kick missed but they took the lead back.
The win was then secured when Isi Naisarani caught Billy Meakes pass and clattered over! The kick missed again but the Force snatched the victory and what a win it was!
