Argentina vs England – Summer Internationals 2017

With England missing 11 players due to Lions duties, they flew down to Argentina with a young much weakened squad. With 11 players out, they decided to bring 11 new player into the starting lineup including the likes of 18 year old Tom Curry and Newcastle’s Mark Wilson who was missing his sons birth to make his debut.

Argentina are known for their skillful mindset and they showed that as Nicolas Sanchez threaded a neat grubber kick through which Argentinian debutant Emiliano Boffelli dived onto and scored.

It was a great start for the Argentines but the English responded with two George Ford penalties and then a Marland Yarde try. The Harlequins winger shimmied away from Enrique Pieretto and jogged his way to the line.

The game was very much even with England just leading but that was stripped away from them when Tomas Lavanini drove his way over the try line for the try.

The game was swinging on a massive pendulum and it was England who took the lead back after Henry Slade threw a dummy and dabbed a grubber kick through which Jonny May duly dived on with ease to give the game another score.

Martin Lendajo was looking a massive menace to England and suddenly he tore through the line and found support in Jeronimo de la Fuente who was brought down but managed to roll over the whitewash.

The game was beginning to massively open up and that was due to Argentina. Matias Orlando sliced through from his own 22 then found a magical pass to Boffelli and the winger offloaded to Joaquin Tuculet who scorched away for the try!

England seemed out of but when some loose Argentinian handling allowed George Ford to go through there was the hope. The fly half broke free then passed to Piers Francis who in turn passed back to Ford who raced in for the try! His conversion was very poorly hit so the scores stayed at 31-31.

Argentina were not done and when Juan Martin Hernandez struck a drop goal, they seemed to think they had won. However Denny Solomona had different ideas. The Sale Sharks winger rebounded out of a tackle then the

n handed off the effort of another Argentine and weeved a passage to the line and take the win for England! What a game it had been with England coming through to get the win!
